William F."Bill" Pitlik, 79, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at All Saints Catholic Church with Fr. David O'Connor presiding. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, December 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a 4 p.m rosary and a 7 p.m. parish vigil at All Saints Catholic Church. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Tuesday at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born May 22, 1929 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Dr. C.C. and Melvina Tehel Pitlik. He married Mary Kathryn "Kay" Cleary on August 9, 1952 in Rutland, Illiniois. Bill graduated from the University of Iowa in 1953 with a degree in Business. He served in the US Army during the Korean Confict from 1953 until 1955. Bill was the co-owner and president of Pepsi Cola Bottling Company of Cedar Rapids until his retirement on July 19, 1995. He was a member of the Linn County I-Club, Cedar Rapids Country Club, Indian Creek Country Club, ATO Fraternity and a honorary board member of Camp Courageous. He was inducted in the Washington High School Hall of Fame. His philanthropy extended to the University of Iowa Athletic Scholarship Program, Mercy Medical Center, the Community Health Clinic, the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice Home, and Camp Courgeous of Iowa.
Bill is survived by his wife Kay; children Janet (Arthur) Erdall of Edina, Minnesota, James (Jana) Pitlik of Rock Island, Illinois, Diane Pitlik of Cedar Rapids, Richard (Rita) Kells-Pitlik of Mt. Vernon, Linda Pitlik of Cedar Rapids, Carol Ekstrand of Cedar Rapids, Nancy Pitlik of Cedar Rapids, Tom (Susan) Pitlik of Mt. Vernon; grandchildren Jeff (Tiffany), Brad (Lizzy) and Katie Erdall, Drew and Tyler Pitlik, Kaitlyn Pitlik, Hollie Pitlik, Hannah and Logan Ekstrand, Hillary, Heather, Kayla, and Philip Waddell, Brandt, Reece and Sean Pitlik, and a great-grandchild Ben Erdall.
He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. C.C. and Melvina Pitlik.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Camp Courgaeous and or All Saints Catholic Church.
