William Edward Frank, 92 of Chicago, formerly of Solon, died Monday, May 19 at Alden Northmoor Care Center in Chicago from a lengthy illness. Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
William was born August 9, 1915 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of William E. and Inez E. (Martelle) Frank Sr. He was united in marriage to Eleanor A. Zillig on May 7, 1941 in Burlington, Iowa. William worked as a pipe fitter for 50 years, and was a member of the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Union, Local 125 for 50 fifty years. He was a member of Queen of All Saints in Chicago, and a former member of the Clown Unit, El Kahir Shrine Temple.
William is survived by his daughter Suzette (Dave) Kowalski of Chicago, Illinois; son David (Dixie) Frank of Springville, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren; sisters: Margaret Ann Frank Vorseth Smith, Helen "Betty" Frank Bandel, and Theresa Frank Askelson; and brother Anthony "Tony" Frank.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Eleanor; his daughter Coreen Hoffman; sisters: Mary Frank Wilson, and Priscilla Frank Bagnek; and brothers Francis "Jim" Frank, and Paul Frank.
