Wayne D. Walters, 87, formerly of Solon died Wednesday afternoon, March 22, 2006 at the Iowa Masonic Health Facility following a short illness.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Monday, March 27, 2006 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with Reverend Scott Meador, officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery, Solon. Military rites will be conducted by Solon American Legion Stinocher Post #460. Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 pm on Sunday at Brosh Chapel, Solon.
Wayne was born on June 7, 1918 in Dow City, Iowa, the son of William and Amy (Bonsall) Walters. He married Norma Fuesler on December 19, 1942 at Camp Breckenridge, Kentucky. He graduated from the University of Iowa with a business degree in 1961. Wayne, Norma and their family moved to Solon in 1963. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army after twenty years of service. Wayne later served as Johnson County Civil Defense Director. He was a member of the Solon American Legion.
Survivors include his children Wayne "Skip" (Lee) Walters Jr. of Lacey, Washington, Judy (Don) Graf of Tacoma, Washington, and Rich (Julie) Walters of Davenport; grandchildren Zach Walters, Nick Walters, and Darcy (Doug) Peltier; great-grandchildren Jackson and Kate Peltier; a sister Nellie Aho of Westland, Michigan; and a brother Dean (Eleanor) Walters of Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Willeta and Mary.
