Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 19th at the Shueyville United Methodist Church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is handling arrangements. Walter was born June 10, 1920 in Johnson County, near Oxford, the son of Earnie and Alice (Hospodarsky) Schropp. He married Hazel Marie Grauer on November 15, 1944 in Oxford. Walter proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Walter farmed in the Oxford area for two years, before moving to the Swisher area in 1948, where they farmed for 64 years. Walter dearly loved farming and still got in his tractor and baled hay at the age of 89. He was a long-time member of the Shueyville United Methodist Church. Walter served on the Jefferson Township School Board, was a member of the ASCS Board, Board President of the Swisher Telephone Company, and was a Jefferson Township Trustee for many years. He enjoyed playing cards, working with his church, and most of all spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was loved and respected by his family and friends and will be missed dearly. As his family, we know his life and death are in the hands of his loving and caring God. Walter is survived by his wife of 67 years, Hazel; children, Judy (Ken) Bracy, Joyce (Rob) Sirowy all of Cedar Rapids, Gary (Sue) Schropp of Swisher, Jerry Schropp of Dennison, Rick (Julie) Schropp of Swisher and Debbie (Dan) Takes of Ely; 20 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Goldie Royston of Iowa City, Marie Olson of Oxford, Delores Mikelson of Tiffin, and Deanna Macri of Tiffin.
