Vernita J. Stejskal, 88 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Vernita was born January 23, 1924 in rural Ely, the daughter of John and Blanche (Suchomel) Lnenicka. She married George Stejskal on February 25, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. She worked at Wilsons Packing, Collins Radio and Quaker Oats, and was the manager at Dairy Maid when she retired. She loved camping, fishing, boat riding, and spending time with her friends and family. She was a member of the VFW Womens Auxilary Post 788. Vernita is survived by a daughter, Lana Jean (Dennis) Cobb of Solon; two grandsons Brian D. Cobb (Brittany Albert) and Todd J. Cobb; a sister Marilyn (Jerry) Jandik of Cedar Rapids; many nieces and nephews as well as special friends Bruce Jones, Sandy Williams, and Robert Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Stejskal on November 11, 2006; sisters Dolores Ralston, Ann Sharf and Evelyn Mikulecky. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Mercy.
