Troy David Malatek, 53, of Cedar Rapids, passed on Tuesday, July 6, 2021. A Celebration of Life gathering will be from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW in Cedar Rapids. A private family inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Solon.

Troy was born November 20, 1967, to David and Carol (Meskimen) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Troy's life was full of people who loved him deeply. His father, David and sisters Tracy (Dave Everett) and Tricia (Jamie Wilson) provided a sense of home that never left him.  The three siblings were always devoted to each other as is the larger Malatek (Grandparents George and Gladys) and Meskimen (Grandparents Regis and Lucille) families. This includes nieces Madison Weber, Macie Wilson and Autumn Galston, many aunts, uncles and cousins. Often it was hard to tell who siblings were and who were cousins as this family was knit together in the Solon and Ely communities. Troy attended school in Solon, graduating in 1986. It was in Ely where Troy served as a volunteer fireman, married Phaedra (Plona) in 1990and made his first home with their son Mitchel (Kendra Altena). Blessed with a second son, Trevor, the now complete family moved to the Chicago area. Having learned the bricklaying trade in Cedar Rapids (Zangerle Masonry), Troy quickly shared his talent in Chicago where he won awards for his craftsmanship and served on the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Union board. When not working, Troy enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, anything outside really, which he shared with his sons, friends and extended Iowa family. He was active at Harvest Bible Chapel (Aurora, Il) and Community Christian Church (Montgomery, Il) where he gave his time and attention wherever he was needed. Troy had struggles in life, but he never struggled with finding people who loved him as they are numerous. His kind and gentle nature was regarded highly as was his sense of humor and willingness to try new things.

Troy will be missed but never forgotten as he was part of a large family that will always remember him and those that went before him. This includes his mother, Carol (Meskimen), stepmother Toni (Rogers). Troy's grandparents, George and Gladys (Novak) and Regis and Lucille (Dellamuth) Meskimen. His uncles Keith Meskimen, Jeff Malatek, Vernon Malatek, Roger Davis and aunts Cheryl Osborn (Meskimen), Patricia Meskimen, Carol Paige (Malatek) and Hilda Malatek. Cousins Katherine Meskimen, Todd Wakeford and Curtis Osborn, his best friend.
