Tony Chanprasith Tangkhpanya, 72, passed peacefully in his home the afternoon of April 29, 2023, after a gradual decline in health. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, at Brosh Chapel. Private family inurnment will be at a later date in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant
He was surrounded and supported by his loving family, friends, and caregivers during the last days of his life.
Tony was born on April 24th, 1951 in Vientiane, Laos to Chantanack and Kham Tangkhpanya. He was united in marriage to Yenchay Tangkhpanya, and together they made their home in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in 1979. There, they owned and operated Yenchay's Asian Food Market for almost 30 years. He was a member of the Lao Friendship Association of Southeast Iowa and enjoyed spending his free time singing karaoke, ballroom dancing with his wife, gardening, learning to cook, and spending time with friends.
Tony is survived by his daughter Christine Le of Cedar Rapids, IA; his son Jeremy Tangkhpanya of Huxley, IA; and his son Jesse Tangkhpanya of San Francisco, CA. He is also survived by grandchildren Owen, Tessa, Tatum, Asher, Lake, and Willow as well as several brothers, sisters, and half-siblings. Lastly, he leaves behind beloved in-laws, loyal customers, and trusted friends. He is preceded in death by his wife Yenchay, both parents, and grandchild, Coen.
