Tillie Mae Novy, 92 formerly of Swisher, died Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center from a lengthy illness with her family by her side. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids with Rev. Tom Carver presiding. Burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Tillie was born May 30, 1915 in Fairfax the daughter of Frank and Agnes Pliska Rohlena. Tillie worked for Friendly Foods and the US Bank in Czech Village where she met Joe. She married Joe Novy on April 14, 1949 at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids. Joe and Tillie farmed for many years together in the North Liberty area. Tillie was very active in her community. She served and delivered many congregate meals, and was a local historian of the Swisher and surrounding areas. She submitted many articles to the Solon Economist on Swisher life. Tillie was a member of the Birthday Club, the Swisher Socialites, and was a 50 year member of the WFLA Lodge 400.. Tillie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also had been involved in many of the Especially 4 You Walks.
Tillie is survived by a daughter Mary Ann (Leonard) Verdeck; two granddaughters Karrie (Lance) Goodall and Olivia Blackmer (Nathan Deburn); greatgrandchildren Hunter, Zachary, Haylee and Fiona; a sister in law Alice Rohlena all of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Joe who died December 14, 1988, two brothers Frank and Joe.
