Thomas Daniel Murphy Jr., 70 of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, August 25, 2011 at Mercy Medical Center. Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW., with The Rev. Dr. W. Bramwell Harnish presiding. Private family inurnment will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel. Thomas was born June 15, 1941 in Bronx, New York, the son of Thomas Daniel and Gladys (nee Mulkin) Murphy. He served in the United States Marine Corps for over four years. He was a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown for many years until his retirement. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. He especially enjoyed the time spent going to grandkids sporting events. Tom is survived by his wife, Debora Murphy; his children Randy (Devonne), Thomas III, Tina (Jason), Billy, Mary Jo (Michael), Jimmy (Bobbie), Coree (David), Christy, and Ryan (Amanda); thirty three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; seven nieces and nephews; three brothers Michael (Louise), Daniel, and John (Lucille); and a sister Mary (Richard) Seta. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister Ann Murphy. Memorials may be directed to the family.
