Thomas Edward Levi Sr., 73 of Arlington, Texas formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, March 22, 2013 at Methodist Mansfield Medical Center in Mansfield, Texas. Homegoing services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 29, 2013 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, with Reverend Damian Epps presiding. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Thomas E. Levi Sr. was born to the late Lawrence and Vivian Sims-Levi on March 12, 1940. He was the second of four children; two siblings preceded him in death Emily King and Austin Levi. He attended Chadsey High School in Detroit, MI. He served in the United States Navy for twenty years as an Aviation Electronics Technician and in the Hurricane Hunter. Thomas retired from the United States Navy in 1978. Upon retirement he accepted a position with Rockwell Collins as a Technical Writer. He was employed for nine and half years, however due to health issues he had to leave the company. Thomas was united in marriage to Ethel Louise Sabb on October 2A, 1973 and was married for thirtynine years. Thomas was baptized in Jacksonville, Florida at First Baptist Chwch. He became a member of Mt. Zion Missionery Baptist Church in 1978 where he spent Thirtry-Three and half years serving as a Sunday School Teacher, Laymen, Deacon, Trustee and a member of the Male Chorus. He also served as president of the Baptist Training Unit and the Congress of Christian Education. Thomas held an assortment of positions in the Eastern District Association in addition to the Iowa Missionary Education Baptist State Convention and the Congress of Christian Education. Thomas served as a board member for the Area Substance Abuse Counsel. He was a founding member of the African American Historical Museum and Cultural Center of Iowa. Thomas was also an active member of the National Baptist Laymen's Association. Thomas and his wife relocated to Arlington, Texas in June, 2012 to be close to their family. After relocating to Arlington, he became a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church under the leadership of Pasto Michael Evans, Mansfield, TX. Thomas was an active member of the Brotherhood Ministry. He enjoyed servir the Lord, teaching the gospel, watching sports, making others laugh, helping and was always sharing words of wisdorn. He ensured that he stayed active where ever he was. Thomas loved his family and we loved him. On Friday, March 22, at 2:00 A.M. in the Methodist Medical Hospital in Mansfield, Texas, Thomr Levi Sr was called home to be in the hands of the Lord. Thomas is survived by his devoted wife Ethr Children; Anhw (Shelly), Thomas Jr. and Yolanda (Mark) Robinson. Sister Deborah (Elton) Martin Sr,, Mother-in Law Areatha Hopper, Sister-in-Laws, Edna Levi, Lorraine (Rudy) Jackson, Deborah Hopper Robinson, Allye Doolittle, Cynthia (Hollojue) Oke. Twelve Grandchildren, Tyler, Kayla, Jalen, ZiRon, Ralonda, LaTasia, LaAsia, TyAsia, Diamond, Skyler, Mark Jr and Mareon and one great-grandchild La'Pries, along with a host of nieces, nephervs, cousins as well as God children- Andre Goodman and Miranda Reed.
