June 9, 1935 – April 20, 2022
Thelma June Rohlena, 86, of Norway, died Wednesday, April 20, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 29, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Thelma was born June 9, 1935, in Wyoming, Iowa; the daughter of William E. and Ruth (Parsons) McCalmant. She graduated at age 16 from Wyoming High School, class of 1952. Thelma was united in marriage to Elmer Rohlena on November 6, 1965, at the First Presbyterian Church in Marion. Always working while growing up, she had a paper route, worked at the Wyoming Cafe and local cemetery and then later the Iowa National Mutual Insurance Company. Thelma was an Avon representative for nearly 40 years, where she created many lasting friendships. She seemed to have memorized every relative, friends and family member's phone number, anniversary and birthday and always sent them a card for those occasions. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, tending to her cats, and most of all spending time with her family, especially grandchildren and her great-granddaughter.
Thelma is survived by her sons Frank (Denise) Rohlena of Norway and Carl Rohlena of Norway; four grandchildren Seth Rohlena (Dominque Stevens), Isaac Rohlena, Amber Rohlena (Grant Gilbaugh), and John Rohlena; step grandson Blake Thorson; a great-granddaughter Elliana; her brother Ben McCalmant of Olive Branch, Mississippi; as well as nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Elmer, her brothers George, Robert, Vernon, Charles, Ivan, William and John, her sisters Verna, Rose and Donna.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
