Sylvia Marie Rompot Ulch, 92 of Solon, died Tuesday, March 9 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City from a brief illness. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 12 at the Solon United Methodist Church with Rev. Scott Meador presiding. Burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids . Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11 at the Solon United Methodist Church and for an hour prior to services Friday at the church. Brosh Chapel in Solon is in charge of arrangements.

Sylvia was born on February 23, 1918 in Cedar Rapids the daughter of Antone and Blanche Nemec Rompot. She graduated from old the Washington High School . She worked for Quaker Oats until her marriage. She married George Marvin Ulch of Solon, on September 20, 1941 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua . They farmed in the Solon, Ely and the Mt. Vernon area for many years. She worked as the cook at the Highlander in Iowa City and at Delta Chi Fraternity House for many years and retired at the age of 76.

Sylvia was a member of the Solon United Methodist Church , Saturday Football Dinners at the Church, TOPS #IA 1012 Ely and the Mt. Vernon Friendship Club. She also helped with the Stone Academy Foundation cookbook fundraiser and was a greeter at the school on Sundays for many years. Her hobbies include painting, crochetting, sewing and playing cards. She loved to cook and bake and was well known for her kolaches. In her younger years, she sang live on the radio and was very proud of her time spent singing. Sylvia was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be missed by all.

Sylvia is survived by her son Edward "Tony" (Lou) Ulch and her daughter Leann (Eugene) Tomash both of Solon; grandchildren Kim (Sal) Leone, Brian (Joanne) Ulch, Lisa (Brian) Havlicek, Kristine Tomash, Jennifer Tomash, Alex (Jessica) Tomash, as well as eight great – grandchildren, Sylvia, Georgia, Ella, Evan, Owen, Ethan, Claire, and Charlotte; a brother Don (Sandra) Rompot; sisters in law Josephine Rompot and Rose Ulch as well as many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents, husband George, brothers Joseph, Milver, Vernon , and a sister Martha Krizek; brothers in law Chuck Krizek and Eddie Ulch, a sister in law Sadie Rompot and nephew Bob Rompot.

Sylvia was a city girl that became a dedicated farm wife. She loved her family and friends and showed her love in many ways.
