Steve "Speedo" Clair, 65, lost his courageous battle with COPD on March 24, 2017. Steve was born May 31, 1951 in Cedar Rapids. Shortly, after graduating from Jefferson High School in 1970 he enlisted in the Army, where he drove tanks in Germany. Later returning home, he attended Kirkwood College and became an auto technician for the next 35 years.
He loved sports, especially softball, racing and most of all bowling. Some of his most memorable times were at the bowling center where he coached and mentored many. Steve loved to be a husband, father, papa and friend to all.
He is survived by his mother Lois (Jim) Ryan of Hiawatha; siblings Jerry Clair, Bill (Sharon) Clair, Tony (Tina) Sykora, Mike (Beth) Sykora, Marcia Hunt, Mike (Renee) Clair and Ed (Lisa) Clair. Also left to cherish his memory are his wife of 34 years, Deborah Clair, daughter Janelle Brashaw, son Dustin (Ashley) Clair and grandchildren Ashlyn, Anastyn and Alivayn Brashaw, Kayden, Landry and Stryker Clair.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Ralph Clair, sister Mary Reed and brother Frank Clair.
Celebration of life services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, where full military rites will be conducted. A gathering will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Moose Lodge on West Post Road SW.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Unity Point Hospice for their wonderful care.
