Stanley "Stan" Kuta, 98, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday morning, April 19, 2006 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center following a long illness.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, April 24, 2006 at Brosh Chapel, Cedar Rapids with Reverend William Harnish, officiating.  Interment will follow at Czech National Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 9:00 am until the time of services Monday at the chapel.
Stan was born on April 9, 1908 in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of  Mary and Charles Kuta. At the age of nine months old, his father and mother moved to Homestead in northern Minnesota.  When Stan was nine years of age, the family moved to Cedar Rapids, where at the age of sixteen Stan started to train as an electrician, a trade he practiced the rest of his life.  At age thirty-five he opened his own electrical contracting shop, and with his wife operated it for eighteen years, until they retired in 1961.
Stan helped to reactivate the Cedar Rapids Riverfront Commission on which he was one of the first commissioners to be appointed and served on the commission for many years.  He was a charter member of the Linn County Fish and Game Club, which was started in 1928, in which he held numerous obligatory duties over forty years.
Stan was a also a member of the CSA Lodge, Western Fraternal Life Association #262, and the Federation of Czech Groups.  His hobbies included traveling, fishing, and wood working.
Those who knew Stan remember him as a great lover of the outdoors and a great conservationist.
Survivors included two grandsons Ron Kuta of  Lomita Ca., and Randy Kuta of  Newport Beach Ca., daughter in law LaVon Kuta of Lomita Ca., and great-granddaughter Breanna Kuta of Lomita Ca.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Alma, and a son James R. Kuta,
