Shirley Darlene Sueppel, 77, of Solon died Wednesday evening, April 12, 2006 at the Mechanicsville Care Center from complications of Alzheimer's disease.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 17, 2006 at Brosh Chapel, Solon with Rev. Scott Meador, officiating.  Interment will follow at Cedar Township Cemetery, rural Solon.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday at the chapel.

Shirley was born on October 28, 1928 in Jones County to William Filter and Mildred Ruth Onstott, and was later adopted by her Uncle Justus and Aunt Mabel Grabbe.  Shirley graduated from Anamosa High School and went on to attend Davenport Business College.  She worked as a legal secretary.  She married Lawrence J. "Buster" Sueppel on September 24, 1955.  After their marriage she helped Lawrence on the farm.  She later worked at several care facilities as a cook and nurse's aide in the Mount Vernon and Solon areas.  Her greatest love was cooking in Iowa City for fraternity and sorority houses and for her family.

Survivors include her children Bryan "Coke" Sueppel of Solon, Tracy (Steve) Batcheller of Stanwood, and Lawrence J. "Joey" (Lorraine) Sueppel of Copperas Cove, Texas; and four grandchildren Adri, Ray, and Lee Batcheller and Jessica Sueppel.

She was preceded in death by her husband, folks, aunts, uncles, and a brother Billy.

Shirley was a wonderful caring person.  She will be deeply missed, but never forgotten.  She may now rest in peace with Buster.

A memorial fund has been established for the Mechanicsville Care Center.
