Sandra, (Sandy), Susan Cumberlin Reid, daughter of Marion Clifford Cumberlin and Mary Rogers Cumberlin, courageously battled cancer. She fought valiantly determined to win. And in the end, she did win, because she has peacefully transitioned to her new home in Heaven on Saturday, January 24th with her daughter, Jennifer, at her side. Thank you to the Hospice House of Mercy for their compassionate care. Sandy is survived by her son, Chad Allen Kanke,(Denise) of Florida, daughter ,Jennifer Jill Skalsky,(Shai), 2 grandsons, Kevin Thomas Skalsky, Cody Allen Kanke, 1 granddaughter, Ryann Nicole Skalsky, 2 sisters, Terri Nekvinda, (Bill), Penny Ohrt, (Rick), and brother, Gary Cumberlin (Pat)of Ohio, 2 Uncles, Jack Allen of Florida and Dick Allen,(Ardy) of Arizona. Sandy was preceded in death by her parents Cliff and Mary Cumberlin and brothern Marion Clifford Cumberlin Jr. Sandy was passionate about her children, grandchildren, horses, and pets that lived on her property. She was well known in her small community of Olin as a very hard working little lady. She managed a 40 acre piece of land that served as home for many horses over the years. She single handedly repaired the dike that borders her land to protect her pastureland. Sandy bred and raised registered quarter horses. She also broke and trained her horses, which evolved into a book that she shared with others. Sandy gave riding lessons to young riders as well as young at heart riders. Sandy liked anything that had to do with horses, especially participating in organized trail rides as well as team pinning with her son and grandson. She loved camping at Eminence, Missouri and Codfish in Maquoketa, which always meant going on trail rides. If there was a horse trail anywhere in Eastern Iowa, Sandy explored it. She also enjoyed vacations on the beach with her daughter and grandchildren. Sandy was retired from Rockwell Collins. She was a member of the Cedar Rapids Emmaus Community. She enjoyed participating in Bible Study and serving others. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends. There will be a "Celebration of Life" service at Shueyville United Church, located at 1195 Steeple Lane NE in Shueyville, on Wednesday, January 28th at 10:30 a.m. A "Gathering" will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to the family.
