Ruth Ann (Brockman) Myers was born on August 3rd, 1943 to Rita Theresa (Kent) Brockman and Walter Henry "Buster" Brockman in Morrison, Illinois.

Ruth grew up in a small hamlet just outside of Morrison called Round Grove. A self-proclaimed tomboy, she kept up with her brothers playing sports and getting in scrapes. She attended school in Round Grove until moving on to Morrison High School.

After graduating, Ruth attended St. Anthony's College of Nursing in Rockford, Illinois and was a nurses-aid at Morrison Hospital. After completing nurse's training she and her best friend, Beth, moved to Cedar Rapids and began their careers at Mercy Hospital. Ruth worked in General Surgery and then the Intensive Care Unit.

She and Don married in 1967 and welcomed their first of five daughters in 1969.  While her children were young, Ruth put her career on hold to stay home and care for them. After nearly 10 years she returned to Mercy Hospital where she had a distinguished 30-year career as an emergency nurse, rape victim advocate and trauma coordinator. She was Secretary of the Iowa Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) and later held the role of President, serving one and a half terms. Through this work, she travelled to numerous conferences throughout the country and assisted emergency facilities improve their practices and procedures.

In her free time, she raised her five daughters, kept the home standing, cooked delicious meals, gardened, canned their own food, and sewed clothes and Halloween costumes for the girls. As a hobby, she trained as a cake decorator, making wedding and birthday cakes for family and friends.

Ruth was a woman of deep faith and had profound love for God, the Catholic Church, and her community within the church. She was a member of the St. Mary Parish Council and attended numerous religious conferences throughout the years. She enjoyed being a lector and Eucharistic Minister as well.

Ruth was an avid reader, enjoyed shopping and movies with her daughters and traveling to visit family in Tucson each Thanksgiving. She enjoyed traveling and some of her most favorite places were Germany, France, the Czech Republic, Italy, Mexico, Seattle and Hawaii.  Christmas was always a highlight, gathering with her family to celebrate.

Ruth is survived by her husband Donald Myers, daughters Janene Groeschen (Chris), Stephanie McLaughlin (Mike), Donelle Milcic (Kevin), Kristine Waters, and Laura Myers. Her grandchildren Aly Lutz (AJ), Seth Groeschen, Brook Groeschen, Noah McLaughlin, Ethan McLaughlin, Kyle Milcic, great granddaughter Wynter Hull, and great grandson Kaiden Groeschen.
