Roger "Bud" L. Meskimen, 80 of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, August 15, 2014 at Windmill Manor in Coralville. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where full military rites will be conducted. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel. Roger was born December 2, 1933 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Bertha Meskimen. Bud served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Bud was united in marriage to Rachel A. Yancey on October 15, 1960. They bought a home in Hiawatha, where they raised for 4 children. Bud worked for many years in the construction industry as a Teamster, Local 238 and a laborer, Local 43 for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. He worked for Kleiman Construction and with Rindernecht Construction. Bud was an active outgoing man, in his early years he played baseball and softball. He liked playing horseshoes at family reunions. He taught his sons to hunt and fish. Bud was a devoted husband to Rachel and a proud father and grandfather. He and Rachel spent their last years reading, playing, bingo and enjoying their children and grandchildren. Bud is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Amanda) of Cedar Rapids, Mark of Hiawatha, John (Stephanie) of Walker, and Tracy (Douglas) Sage of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jessica, Cole, William C., Maranda, Marissa, Sarah, Callan, and Blake; his sister-in-laws, Diane Meskimen of Guttenberg, Margaret Yancey, Beverly Yancey, and Judith A. McAllister all of Cedar Rapids; as well as many nieces and nephews who love him dearly. We love you and will miss you. Rest in peace. Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rachel, his grandson Cline Andrew Meskimen, and his brother Guy Meskimen. Memorials may be directed to family.
