Roger Roy Martin passed away at his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, May 23, 2012. Memorial services will be at the Lisbon United Methodist Church at 11:00am Friday, May 25, with graveside internment in the Mount Vernon Cemetery following service. Visitation will be held 9:00-11:00am at Lisbon United Methodist Church prior to the service. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is assisting the family. Roger was born, August 18, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Pearl (Whitlatch) Martin and M. Roy Martin. He graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1958. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Jilovec on February 28, 1959. Roger worked at Collins Radio for a few years, then worked over 20 years at H.P. Smith Company in Iowa City which became James River Corporation, and is now Loparex. He was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1997 and survived a bone marrow transplant in 1999. He then was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2009 and battled that with dignity up until his death. Survivors, besides his wife, are his children, Jodie (Mike) Hines, their daughters, Tayler and Maddison, Lorie(Clint)Landis, their sons, Rob and Jon, of Cedar Rapids and Mike(Mary)Martin, their children, Kari, Michaela, and Matthew, and Doug(Gina) Martin, their children, Emily, Colt, Blakely and Coy, of Mount Vernon and two great-grandsons, Braylen Martin and Prestyn Salehoglu. He is also survived by his mother Pearl Martin of Mount Vernon, his sister Sue Votrobek of Tiffin, brother-in-law, Darrel Dennis of Mount Vernon. Sisters-in-law, Kay (Bob) Lind, Andrea Jilovec of Marion, Denise (Eldon) McAfee of Des Moines, and Arlene Jilovec of Lisbon, brothers-in-law, Bill (Barb) Jilovec, Don (Carol) Jilovec, Bob(Mary Ann) Jilovec, all of Mechanicsville, Steve(Julie) Jilovec of Mount Vernon, Mitch Murphy of Oregon, and many nieces and nephews. Roger was preceded in death by his father, M. Roy Martin, sister Sandi Dennis, brother, Ronnie Martin, brother-in-law, Keith Jilovec, and sister-in-law Eva Murphy. His family and friends were everything to him. He also loved playing golf, mushroom hunting, sports, and watching his grandchildren's activities. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Roger's memory may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice or to Lisbon United Methodist Church.
