Robert E. Vanourny, 91 of Swisher, died Wednesday, November 27, 2013 at Colonial Manor of Amana. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Blain Cemetery near Swisher. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Saturday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Robert was born June 1, 1922 in rural Solon, on what is now Sandy Beach Road, the son of Charley and Mary (Dolezal) Vanourny. He married Irma Stanek on August 5, 1944, near Ely. Robert and Irma farmed all their lives near Swisher. Robert worked for over 39 years at Quaker Oats until his retirement in 1984. They enjoyed polka dances, fishing and going to Waterville, Minnesota in the summers. Robert is survived by his son, Robert J. of Swisher, a sister-in-law Irene Ziskovsky of Swisher; two nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Vanourny on March 27, 2005, a sister Mary (Ed) Zachar, a brother Charles S. Vanourny. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to donor's choice of charity.
