Robert was born January 23, 1927, in rural Iowa City, the son of John and Margaret (Meyers) Stinocher.  He attended rural school and helped his dad on the farm.  In 1948, he worked at the University of Iowa, mowing grass and landscaping. He then got a job working construction on the VA Hospital.  He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950-1952 in the 7th Army Corps.  After returning from service, Robert worked at Allis Chalmers in Cedar Rapids and continued to farm on the home place.

On July 26, 1953, he married Jean Storm in Wyoming, Iowa.  Together they lived on that farm until 1956, when the Coralville Reservoir was built.  They moved to the residence where they lived until his death.  Robert returned to the construction business working for many construction firms: Viggo Jensen, Knutson, Larson and Unzeitig.  Robert retired from construction in November 1989 after 30 years.  He was a 50 year member of Local Union 43.  Robert was a 57 year member of the Solon American Legion. He served on the Color Guard for over 40 years.  Robert was one of the founding members of the Solon Beef Days Committee, started in 1971.  He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, deer hunting, and most of all spending time with his family.  One of the special things that he was a part of, was driving Santa to homes for over 50 years.
