Robert Lawrence Cihla Sr., 69 of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House. Celebration of life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 23, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Cedar Memorial Cemetery where full military rites will be conducted by the Swisher American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Robert was born May 17, 1945 in Iowa City, the son of John and Myrtle (Derby) Cihla. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1964. Bob served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Conflict from 1965-1967. Bob was united in marriage to Carolyn Zachar on October 28, 1967 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. Bob had worked at Hy-Vee, Collins, Coe College and at Lindale until his retirement in 2005. He enjoyed helping people, fishing, occasionally visiting the casino, traveling, and spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren. He was a member of the Swisher American Legion, President of The Strong Family Association, Past-President of PADS, and life member of the Disabled Vet Chapter 10 and St. Patricks Catholic Church. Bob is survived by his wife of over forty-seven years, Carolyn; his two children Shelly (Brian) Teberg and Rob (Julie) Cihla all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren Jenna, Molly, Megan, Rachel and Kegan Teberg, Caleb and Kaitlyn Cihla; his sister Linda (Ron) Shimek of Shueyville, his beloved dog Precious, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends He was preceded in death by his parents and two grandchildren Kristen and Kaitlyn Teberg.
