Robert William Middendorf, 79 of Solon, died Monday, October 5, 2009 at the Solon Nursing Care Center.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 9 th at Brosh Chapel in Solon with Reverend Scott Meador presiding.  Burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 4 to7 p.m. on Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Robert was born August 29, 1930 in Lansing, the son of Frank and Violet Thorpe Middendorf.  He married Donna Russell Somermeyer on June 17, 1961 in New Albin.  Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  Bob worked for many years for the State of Iowa Conservation Department which later became the Department of Natural Resources. He was the head Biologist for Lake McBride until he retirement in 1992.  Bob loved to fish and enjoy the outdoors with his friends, Buck Keith, Jack Neuzil, Paul Sleeper and Terry Fiala.
Robert is survived by his wife, Donna; a brother James (Carolyn) Middendorf of Monona and his sisters Jeanann (Everett) Stahl, Donna Bartheld of LaCrosse, Wisconsin and Sandy (Richard) Drake of Kansas City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a stepson Rowland Somermeyer, a brother Gerald Middendorf, and a brother in law Gerald Bartheld,
