Dr. Robert Ralph "Bob" Carnes, 88 of Solon, formerly of Amana, died Tuesday, February 27, 2007 at Mercy Medical Center after a short illness.  Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2007 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with burial following in Cedar Memorial Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, where there will be a 6 p.m. parish rosary,  Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Friday at the church.
Bob was born September 8, 1918 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Rollo Ralph and Margaret Ferreter Carnes.  He married Marjorie Moravec on April 10, 1942 in Corvallis, Oregon.  Bob attended Coe College for three years until he was called to service in the United States Marine Corps.  He attained the rank of Captain, while being a Fighter Pilot in the Airforce during World War II from April 1943 – January 1946.  After his military service, he graduated from the Illinois College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago.  He graduated Magna Cum Laude.   He started his own medical practice in 1950 in Cedar Rapids and retired at the age of 72,  in 1990.  He was a member of the Linn County, State and National Podiatric Medical Society, Tuesday Noon Optimists Club, Elks Lodge, Knight of Columbus, as well as Imperial Turtle of Iowa.  Bob served as past President of the Iowa Podiatric Medical Society.  He was a founding member of the Amana Colonies Golf Course, as well as being a long time member of Elmcrest County Club and St. Matthew's Catholic Church.
Bob is survived by his son Dr. R. Scott (Judy) Carnes of Cedar Rapids; a daughter Caren "Corky" Franklin of San Antonio, TX; three grandchildren: Kara Carnes, Lisa (Steve) Allen, and Daniel (Whitney) Franklin; seven greatgrandchildren; a special companion of over 24 years Shirley Brosh and their dog Ike of Solon; a sister Mary Jones; a sister-in-law Pat Carnes; brother-in-laws Bob Newland and Victor "Bud" Moravec all of Cedar Rapids.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie who died March 3, 1983; a brother Rollo Carnes; a sister Carol Newland; and a brother-in-law Don Jones.
