Robert Frank Barta, 98, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.   Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 26, 2023, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial to follow in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted.

Robert was born February 15, 1924, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Winifred (Vondra) Barta.         He served in the United States Army during World War II.  Robert was united in marriage to Marcella Svoboda on November 21, 1946, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.  Robert was literally born on the farm and spent his entire life working the Century Farm alongside his father, and his wife Marcella.  He enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, driving cars, farming, and most of all spending time with his family, especially the grandchildren.

Robert is survived by his wife Marcella; three children Shirlee Barta Nelson, Katherine (Wilfred) Carew, and Bob (Kathy) Barta all of Cedar Rapids; seven grandchildren Erin (Damon) Strickland, Nicholas (Joalene) Carew, Ryan (Emily) Morrissey, Sean Morrissey, Kyle (Jamie) Morrissey, Joshua (Abbie) Barta and Kara (David) Gruber; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four nieces Betty, Anita, Jeanne, Arlene and a nephew Ken.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Emil (Marian) Barta and son-in-law Brian Nelson.
