Rita Fern Greiner Wendler, 83 of Lisbon, died Tuesday, September 30 at Mechanicsville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mechanicsville. Inurnment will be in Lisbon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is handling arrangements. Rita was born December 19, 1930 in Keota, the daughter of Peter L. and Grace (Carmichael) Greiner. She graduated from Lisbon Community Schools and from Mercy School of Nursing. Rita was united in marriage to Raymond M. Wendler on November 6, 1952 until his passing on October 24, 1983. Rita was a Registered Nurse and was the head nurse on Unit 71 at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, her card club with the "girls", traveling, the Iowa Hawkeyes, decorating her home for the holidays, and spending time with her family. Rita was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed by all. Rita is survived by children, Steven P. (Sandee) Wendler of Terre Haute, Indiana, Scott F. (Ann) Wendler of Lisbon, Anthony R. (Becky) Wendler of Armstrong, Teresa (Mick) Herrli of Rochester, Minnesota, and Andrew J. Wender of Belleville, Illinois; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; her siblings Colleen (Loren) Hawkins, Jane (Paul) Carney, Martha (Terry) Fitzgerald, Myra Kation, Gloria (Ernest) Schnippel, Pete (Margo) Greiner and Perry Greiner; as well as many nieces and nephews Rita was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond and a sister JoAnn Arcand. A memorial fund has been established in her name.
