Richard "Dick" Paul Schilling, 65, of Cedar Rapids died suddenly at home on Monday, January 15, 2007.  Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 19 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.  Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, where full military rites be conducted by Hanford American Legion Post 5.  Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday and for an hour prior to services Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Richard is survived by his wife of 21 years, Georgia; brother Glen (Joy) of Colorado Springs, CO; sisters Shirley Hanson of Seattle WA, Helen (Bruce) Cregeen of Punta Gorda, FL, and Norma (Leonard) Buser of Cedar Rapids.  Also surviving are sister-in-law Joann Schilling of Waterloo, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Linda and Larry Prachar, and brother-in-law Nick Stadler all of Cedar Rapids; an aunt Arlene Schilling of Waterloo, and many nieces and nephews, and a very "Special Friend" his cat, Katie. Preceding him in death were his parents; brothers Raymond and Merle; brother-in-law Jim Hanson, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Leroy "Duke" and Virginia Dusil.
Richard was born on November 24, 1941 in Waterloo, to Della (Hakenwerd) and Clarence Schilling.  He graduated from St. Patrick's High School in Cedar Rapids.  After completing basic training at Ft. Hood, Texas, Richard served in the Army from 1960-1963.  During his term of service he was stationed in Germany as a missile tech specialist.  He was a member of American Legion Post #5.  For thirty years Richard worked as an operator at Cargill East Bean Plant retiring in 1999 and was a member of the Teamsters Union.
He was united in marriage to Georgia (Stadler) McCune on July 24, 1985 in Las Vegas.  Richard loved Las Vegas and often talked about retiring there.  Richard was a generous but practical person.  One of his favorite pastimes was reading about current events and financial information.  He knew the ups and downs of the stock market and loved to talk about them.  Whenever the Hawkeye or Cyclone teams were playing, he was watching, and like so many Iowans was a true Cubs fan.  His knowledge of sports players and teams was almost as good as that of the stock market.  Richard was an enthusiastic coin collector and enjoyed the occasional trip to Iowa casinos.  He and Georgia worked tirelessly as a team making their yard picture perfect and were proud of their accomplishments.  A challenging game of cribbage with Georgia was also a favorite pastime.
