Richard "Dick" Breza, 85 of Solon died Tuesday, September 25 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after an extended illness. Funeral mass will be 12 noon Friday, September 28 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Burial to follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel in Solon where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary.
Richard was born March 2, 1922 in Solon the son of Joseph and Antoinette Zobel Breza. He married Beulah "Boots" Dvorsky on January 22, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Dick was a lifetime member of Solon and St. Mary's Catholic Church serving as an usher and religious education instructor. Dick farmed for many years in the Solon area. After retirement he worked at ACT in Iowa City. He was a member of the Optimist Club, and the Beef Days Committee.
Richard is survived by his wife Boots; children Steve (Mary) Breza of Newtown, Pennsylvania, Diane (Ron) Burkemper of Cedar Rapids, Joan Anderson, Mary Ann (Mark) Jedlicka and Joe (Julie) Breza all of Solon; sixteen grandchildren, Emily and Andrew Breza, Richard (Pamela) Anderson, Kathryn, Melissa and Theresa Anderson, Jenny (Spencer) Morehouse, Jessica Huber, Sam and Joe Burkemper, Karl, Reece and Brian Jedlicka, Kristin, Kaitlyn and Melanie Breza. Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters Marie Unick, Harriet Regan, and Mildred Noska; and a brother Victor Breza.
A memorial fund has been established in his name.
