Raymond John Westemeier, 86 of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, March 26, 2011 at his home. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 30 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with burial to follow in Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Raymond was born October 14, 1924 in Cascade, the son of Louis and Cecila (Recker) Westemeier. He married Leona Novak on April 23, 1952 in Cedar Rapids. Ray served in the United States Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 5. He was a Reconditioner of automobiles for Rapids Chevrolet for over 39 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and making wood replicas of the American Flag. Ray is survived by his wife Leona; children Carol (Kevin) Walter of Oxford, Alvin (Pam) Westemeier of Coggon and Carl Westemeier of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Kris, Dan, Tiffany, Amber, Alex, Mark, Matt, Katelyn, Kendallyn and Karalyn; and four great-grandchildren Angel, Caden, Jonah and Tyton. Ray is preceded in death by his brothers Edmund, Whitey, and Marcella "Cell" Westemeier and sisters Delores Leytem and Francis "Sis" Comer. Memorials may be directed to American Legion Post 5.
