Raymond F. Vondracek, 68 of Cedar Rapids, died Sunday, February 1, 2009 at his home after a sudden illness. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2009 at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel, temporarily located at 3100 F Avenue NW, where there will be a 7 p.m. rosary.
Ray was born August 24, 1940 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Joseph and Marie (Kucera) Vondracek. Ray graduated from St. Wenceslaus High School. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 909, the Cadets of St. George, and Western Fraternal. He worked at Cedar Acres Meat Processing in Cedar Rapids and at Early V8 Ford in Walker as a mail order clerk. Ray enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, classic cars, and going to garage sales.
Ray is survived by his fiancé, Betty Bedell of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Lumir Vondracek and Wes (Michelle) Vondracek of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-laws, Barb Vondracek of Cedar Rapids and Arlene Vondracek of Clutier; nephews, George, Thomas, David, Joe Vondracek, and Bob Burrell; nieces, Judy, Janice, Kim, and Kristen Vondracek, Sharon Satterly, and Joanne Ulch; 13 great nieces and nephews; and 1 great great niece.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, George, Jerry, Joe, and Roy; sister-in-laws, Rose and Jean; and a nephew, Jason Vondracek.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the St. Wenceslaus Flood Recovery, or the charity of the donor's choice.
