Raymond John Olson, 74 of Cedar Rapids, died Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center following a short battle with lung cancer. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, February 4th at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, February 3 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Raymond was born May 20, 1937 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Lawrence and Eleonora (Sternad) Olson. He married Marilyn Feight on June 16, 1959 in Cedar Rapids. He served in Iowa National Guard during the Kennedy Administration. Over the years he worked for Swisher Feed and Lumber, Payless Cashways, and Sattler Homes. He enjoyed sports, woodworking, and spending time with his family, especially the grandkids. Ray is survived by his wife, Marilyn of 53 years; sons Curtis (Pam) Olson of Walford and Eric (Jodi) Olson of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Hayle, Clay, Alyssa and Alex Olson; and a brother Robert (Cindy) Olson of Cedar Rapids; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers Richard Olson and Donald Olson. Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church.
