Raymond A. Novotny, 95, formerly of Solon, died Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at Harmony in Cedar Rapids. Per Raymond's request there will be no services. A private interment will be at a later date.  The burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Solon is serving the family.

Raymond Abraham was born February 12, 1928, in Solon, the son of Charles Frank and Agnes Josephine (Dvorsky) Novotny. Raymond served his country honorably in the Army and was a Korean Combat Veteran.  He worked as a mechanic for many years and was an expert at working on small engines. He will be remembered as a long-time musician who played drums in bands for 50 years. He played with the Kenny Hofer band for the last of those 20 years. The band traveled and played in many states, on cruises and Oktoberfests in Germany. With many record albums/cassette tapes and cds cut by the band, you can still hear them play on the Sunday Morning Czech Party hour. Raymond had a "laid back" personality who had a smile and a laugh for everyone he met and will be deeply missed.

Raymond is survived by his children Linda (Frank) Van Etten and Teresa Novotny; David (Judy) Novotny, Lora (Mike) Raymon; nine grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; as well as his nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Alma (Dick) Funk and Irene (Glenn) Shima.

Memorials may be directed to the cause of your choosing in honor of Raymond.
