Ray Shramek ("Sandy Beach Hoot Owl" / "Peezo"), 76, of Solon, died Thursday, October 16, 2014. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 21, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with Deacon Phillip Saunders presiding. Burial will follow at Anderson Cemetery, Swisher. Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. The family requests that everyone dress casually in honor of Ray. Ray was born May 7, 1938 at his home in Swisher. He married Leona Kadera on April 19, 1960, at the First Presbyterian Church near Ely. Ray was employed by F.J. Krob Elevator in the Solon and Ely areas for 44 years, from August 1956 until his retirement in August 2000. Ray is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leona; his children, Brenda (Gary) Hovey, Rick (Mary) Shramek of Swisher, and Bonnie (Scott) Ollinger of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren, Heather (Dallas Chandler) Hovey, Cliff (Joanie) Hedlund, Randy (Lisa Hajek) Shramek, Crystal Shramek and Amanda Ollinger; two great-grandchildren, Natalie and Madison Hedlund; triplet brothers, Roy (Jan) and Roger (Alma) Shramek of Swisher; four sisters, Mildred Ballard of Marengo, Rose Ann Netolicky and Marion (Joe) Benda of Swisher, Alice (Jon) Galvin of Cedar Rapids; sister-in-law Doris (Ernie) Mouchka of Swisher; brother-in-law Dennis (Bobbie) Kolda of Cedar Rapids, along with many other family members, and special friends Bob and Connie Lang of Cedar Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Sr. and Eleanor Shramek of Swisher; two brothers, Edward Jr. (Louise) and Leonard (Sylvia) Shramek; in-laws: LeRoy Ballard Sr., Leonard Netolicky, Emil "Jeda" and Mary "Babie" Kadera, Bernice Kolda and Wilma (Lubert) Reif and many other family members. Ray enjoyed listening and dancing to Czech and Country music, fishing, camping, deer hunting, mushroom "hobie" hunting, going to the shooting range, driving his Chevy pickup, ice skating, playing marbles, putting puzzles together, and being a "prankster", but above all, spending joyful time with family and friends. A memorial fund has been established for the family.
