Rachel Marcella Cleppe Hodina, 93 of Ely, died Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at the Solon Care Center. Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery in Tama at 2 p.m. Monday. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel. Rachel was born November 8, 1921 in Victor, the daughter of Edmond and Cantellis (DeSloover) Landuyt. She married Theophille "Tae" Cleppe on September 26, 1942 in Chelsea. Tae died August 26, 1957. She married Harry Hodina on January 14, 1961 in Silvis, Illinois. Harry died July 25, 1998. For many years Tae and Rachel farmed in the Tama area until his death. In 1961, she moved to Ely where Rachel and Harry owned and operated Harry's 66 in Ely until 1984. She volunteered at congregrate meals in Ely from June 1990 until April 2011. Rachel enjoyed gardening, playing cards, embroidering, going to the casino once in awhile, as well as spending time with her family. She is survived by her children Ronald E. (Tammy) Cleppe of Ely, Joyce M. (Larry) Petersen of Cedar Rapids, Robert A. (Debra) Cleppe of Ely; step-children Kathleen Blatchford of San Diego, California and Ron Hodina of Reno, Nevada; fourteen grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren; a brother Ed Landuyt of Belle Plaine; special friend Lenna See of Ely; sister-in-laws Margaret Landuyt, Mary Tomas and Theresa Rund; and a brother-in-law Edmond Iezek. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, five brothers and three sisters. Memorials may be directed to the family at P.O. Box 137, Ely, Iowa 52227.
