Patrick Michael Murphy, 73, of Shueyville, passed away on November 9, 2015 in his home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 13, 2015 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon, with Fr. Tim Sheedy presiding. Burial will be in Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil. Patrick was born June 7, 1942 in Adrian, Minnesota the son of William and Vivian (Flannery) Murphy. He graduated from St. Adrian High School and St. Mary's College in Winona, Minnesota. Pat worked at Rockwell Collins for over 36 years, and retired in 2002 as the Director of Material/Logistics. Pat was united in marriage to Rena Taylor on March 31, 1984. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, and especially his Canadian fishing trips with his son Tom and good friend Bob. Pat was actively involved in volunteer work with the Boy Scouts, Mercy Hospital, the 6th Judicial Foster Care Review Board, and the Abbe Center; he also served as president of the Cedar Rapids Community Council of PTSA and as Mayor of Shueyville for 8 years. After his retirement, he and Rena spent their winters in Arizona. Because of Pat's passion for geneology, they also traveled to discover his family history. His strong Irish heritage extended beyond St. Patrick's Day, and he enjoyed sharing its music, food, and spirits with friends. Pat is survived by his wife Rena; children Tim (Beth) Murphy of Bozeman, Montana, Tom Murphy (Monica Winterberg) of Iowa City, Joe Murphy of Spokane, Washington and Molly (Mike) Potter of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren Alex, McKenzie, Jake, Abbey, Luke, Sami, Megan, Nic and Alex; and many special friends. Pat was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials may be directed to Camp Courageous in his name.
