Otto John Houser, 86 of Newhall, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2006 at the Colonial Manor Nursing Home in Amana, where he had been a resident since December 2005.  Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2006 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick's and St. Paul's Cemetery in Watkins.  Visitation will be 4 to 8 pm Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids where there will be a 7 pm rosary.  Visitation will also be an hour prior to services Saturday at the Church.

Otto was born April 9, 1920 in Walford, the son of Frank F. and Rose A. (Buchtela) Houser.  He married Caroyl Roseberry June 28, 1945 at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Newhall.  He was employed by Spahn and Rose Lumber Co. in Newhall before working at South Side Sash and Door in Cedar Rapids.  He was a co-founder of Houser Bros. Plumbing and Electric in Newhall where he worked for many years.  Otto retired to pursue his woodworking hobby in 1982.

Otto is survived by his wife of 61 years, Caroyl Houser; two sons Kenneth (Kathy) of Watkins and Douglas (Sheryl) of North Liberty; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; 3 brothers Francis (Kate) of Cedar Rapids, Leonard (Beth) and Lumir (Pat) both of Scottsdale, Arizona; two sisters Rosemary (Lloyd) Maresh and Rita (Otis) Sebastian both of Newhall.

He was preceded into death by his parents.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
