Osmond "Ozzie" R. Berry Jr., 81 of Ely, died Monday, September 26, 2011 at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, September 29, 2011 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will follow in First Presbyterian Church Cemetery ~ near Ely. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids. Osmond was born October 2, 1929 in Linn County, the son of Osmond and Florence (McGowan) Berry. He married Barbara Hartley on April 25, 1950 in Cedar Rapids. Ozzie worked for Iowa Steel and Iron Works for over 40 years. He enjoyed fishing, mushrooming, gardening, making ice cream, and the time spent with his family, especially the grandkids and great-grandkids. Ozzie is survived by his wife, Barb; daughters, Judy (James Sr.) Serbousek and Janet Berry; daughter-in-law, Lori Berry; 7 grandchildren Jason (Donelle) Mullin, James (Lara) Serbousek, Jaydon (Flory) Serbousek, Jeri (Casey) Holst, Ryan (Amy) Barta, Mathew (Nicole) Berry, and Michael Boyens; 11 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law Mildred Hartley; brother and sister-in-laws Bill (Lavonda) Barnhart, Linda (Darrell) Flinn, Tom (Sue) Hartley, and Alan (Becky Williams) Glad, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Steven Michael Berry on March 26, 1999 and sisters and brother-in-laws, Catherine Barnhart, Charlotte (Bud) Reinheimer and Caroline (Donald) Stewart. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ely Fire Department.
