Milo "Mike" William Hodina, 96, died peacefully Monday, June 2, 2014 at Higley Manor. Celebration of Life services will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2014 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, with burial to follow in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Brosh Chapel. Milo was born January 12, 1918 in Tama, the son of Bohumil and Agnes (Morek) Hodina. He graduated from Wilson High School in 1936. He was united in marriage to Lorraine A. Jirak on August 18, 1940 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua. Milo worked for over 45 years at Iowa Steel as a welder, retiring as superintendent in 1981. Milo and Lorraine volunteered hundreds of hours with St. Lukes Auxilary and also loved to travel with one of their favorites being Estes Park in Colorado. Milo was associated with the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1947, Arie 2272, holding the office of President and trustee. He was a Third Degree Mason for over 50 years with Mt. Herman Lodge/Amber Grotto. Milo founded the Iowa City/Cedar Rapids Ostomy Support Group. He earned the Cancer Survivor of the Year Award. He was also a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Milo is survived by his sons Bill (Phyllis) Hodina of Cedar Rapids and Gary (Doris) Hodina of Marion; grandchildren Jim (Shawn) Hodina, Ted (Allison) Hodina, and Tracie Hodina; four great-grandchildren Zach and Ashley McDill, and Tyler and Regan Hodina; and his siblings Lucille (Cliff) Netolicky of Cedar Rapids and Evelyn (Everett) Mack of Colorado Springs; as well as nephews, cousins and a new best friend, Tank (therapy dog). Milo was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lorraine, who died September 4, 1992, his brother Lester, his sister Anna Mae Horak, daughter-in-law Michelle and a long time friend Alice Snarskis. In lieu of flowers contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society and or to Hospice of Mercy. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the caregivers at Higley Mansion and Hospice of Mercy.
