October 5, 1967 – November 2, 2023
Michael Eugene Stevenson, 56, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, November 12, 2023, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Celebration of Life service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 13, 2023, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted.
Michael was born on October 5, 1967, in Boise, Idaho, the son of Sheldon E. Stevenson and Karin B. (Moore) Blood. He graduated from Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids in 1986. Mike served two years as an Army Reservists, discharged in 1988, then began his trucking career a year later. Mike proudly drove truck over 30 years. He was with JMS Transportation for many years, as well as Summertyme Trucking, and DeNeve Enterprises. Most recently he was working as a grain inspector at Mid-Iowa Grain. Mike was united in marriage to Lori (Kinnison) Fortmann on June 26, 2010, in Cedar Rapids. He enjoyed watching football, rooting for his Carolina Panthers and Penn State Nittany Lions. He also had a passion for anything WW II related. Planes in general but especially fighter planes and tanks.
Mike is survived by his wife Lori; stepchildren Brendon & Dallas Boyle of Cedar Rapids, and Jace Fortman of Mooresville, NC; granddaughter, Hayden Boyle; brother, RJ (Liz) Blood of Central City; aunt Maggie (Richard) Hrvol of Cedar Rapids; nephews, Tom & Marcus Allman; niece, Lucy Blood; and his great-niece Jasmine Allman. Mike will also be remembered by his long time best friends; Amy (Anson) Clark and family of Monticello, Kim (John) Havilcek of Marion, and Roger (Joanne) Bauer of St. Germaine, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father Robert Blood, grandparents, and his sister Connie Allman.
