Schwab
October 30, 1954 – February 13, 2023
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Schwab, 68, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on February 13, 2023. Michael was born October 30, 1954, to Leo and Bernadine (Aigley) Schwab. Michael was a beloved husband, father, stepfather, and grandfather who touched the lives of many with his kindness, knowledge, generosity, and unwavering faith.
He lived a life full of love, laughter, and joy together with his second wife Sonya of 27 years. They had an unshakable bond and led very busy lives raising two additional children to the seven they shared from previous marriages.
Their children are Jennifer (Chris) Frasher, Christi (Chris) Blomberg, Rachel (James) Hooper, Joshua Schwab, Josh Sterrett, Jacob (Virginia) Schwab, Danielle (Austin) Fischer, Samantha (Ariyana and Kat) Dumon, and David Schwab. He was blessed with thirteen grandchildren and one great grandson.
He is also survived by his siblings Berna (Larry) Stockman, Bobbie Rayburn, Tom Schwab, Pattie Schwab, and Alan Schwab. Michael was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Garry and Billie.
Michael enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid horseman, and enjoyed barrel racing with his beloved horse, Doc. He loved camping (with horses), computers, trail riding, his work, volunteering with the Cedar Rapids Horseman Club, and mentoring young people in the community on proper care and safe riding of horses.
He enjoyed a 38-year career as a senior fabricator at Rockwell Collins (1974-2012), where he was known for his strong leadership skills and dedication to his work. He had many other jobs during his career with Rockwell, including DJing with Sonya for fourteen years, and as co-pastor at North English Christian Church where he helped build the youth group.
In addition to his love for horses and work, Michael was passionate about spending time with his family. Christmas and July 4
th
were his favorite holidays, and he cherished the memories he made with his loved ones during those special times of the year. He rarely missed a summer visiting the Iowa State Fair with the family, even participating in the 150
th
Anniversary horse caravan of 120 miles.
Michael's life will be celebrated at North Point, 621 Center Point Rd NE in Cedar Rapids Iowa on February 18
