Michael F. Mead, 74, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, November 5, 2022, surrounded by his family.  Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW.  Celebration of Life services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 11, 2022, at Brosh Chapel. Burial will be in Anderson Cemetery, Swisher, where full military rites will be conducted.

Mike was born August 18,1948, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Fred and Margaret (Koenigsberger) Mead.  He graduated from Cedar Rapids Jefferson High School in 1966.  He married Connie Vanourney on March 21, 1968.  They shared 52 years together, before her passing in June of 2020.  Mike served in the United States Army from 1968-1974, where he met and formed a lifelong friendship with Mike (Mary) Dey of Portage, Michigan.  He was a loyal employee of the Chicago Northwestern/Union Pacific Railroad, retiring in 2009 after 42 years of service.  In his free time, he enjoyed bowling, fishing and trying his luck at the casino.  He could strike up a conversation with anyone and was a friend to all who knew him.

He is survived by his children Lisa (Ian) Robinson of Cedar Rapids and Brian (Jennifer) Mead of De Soto, Kansas; grandchildren Madeline, Miles, Alex and Riley; his brother Ron (Linda) Mead of O'Fallon, Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother Rick Mead.
