Michael Andrew Andrle, 61, of Des Moines, Iowa (formerly of Ely) passed away on Monday, December 30, 2013 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa following many weeks of hospice care at home. The family wishes to thank the caregivers who helped Michael remain at home. It was Michael's wish that his body be deeded to the medical program at the University of Iowa upon his death. Michael's family will greet friends at a visitation to celebrate his life from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2014 at The Avacentre at Brosh Chapel, 2121 Bowling Street SW in Cedar Rapids. A private gathering will be held with family and friends in Des Moines at a later date. Michael was born August 19, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Milo and Verlee (Trimble) Andrle. He lived most of his life in the Ely, IA area and was a graduate of Prairie High School. He was a machinist and welder during his working years and also farmed near Ely. He moved to Des Moines in 2006 to be closer to his children. He is survived by his two daughters; Marna (Joel) Schutte of Pleasant Hill and Marci (Matt) Whitaker of Clive, as well as two sons; Clint (Kerrin) Andrle of Dallas Center, and Luke Andrle of Omaha, NE. Grandchildren include: Jorie, Cade, Quinn and Beck Schutte; Calvin, Alison and Lincoln Whitaker; and Milo and Jane Andrle. Michael is also survived by two brothers, John Andrle of St. Louis, MO; and Robert (Carol) Andrle of Ely; as well as nephews John (Julia) Andrle, Craig (Becky) Andrle and niece Rene (Scott) Tedrow. Michael was preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mercy Hospice in Johnston.
