Merry TePoel, 71 of Solon, died Thursday, June 15, 2017 at her home. Celebration of Life Services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2017 at Brosh Chapel & The Avacentre in Solon, located at 100 S. Cedar Street. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Visitation will be from 2 until 5 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2017 at Brosh Chapel in Solon.
Merry Lou TePoel was born in Waynesville, Missouri, on November 9, 1945, the daughter of Lawrence and Letha (Walters) Neal. Merry grew up in Missouri, attending elementary and high school in Crocker where she established many lifelong friendships. Merry attended Crocker First Christian Church growing up and was later baptized and became member of Solon United Methodist Church. During the height of the Vietnam War, Merry worked at Fort Leonard Wood, where she met and married Leonard "Len" TePoel on February 3, 1968. At the completion of his military service, they moved to Iowa. Merry worked at UI State Psychopathic Hospital from 1968 until 1982, then worked for a private pediatrician, the Home Economics Department at the UI. In 1973, she started work at Westinghouse Learning Corporation, where she worked for 11 years. In 1984, she and Len started TePoel Trucking, later becoming LMT Trucking, Inc, which they ran for 21 years. Merry is survived by her husband of 49 years, Len; two sons, Evan (Elisha) of Solon and Todd of Denver, Colorado; two granddaughters, Fiona and Isobel; one stepdaughter, Sherry McNeal of North Liberty and grandson, Logan; brother-in-law John TePoel (Pat) of Tama; nephew Duane (Brenda) TePoel of Solon; niece Johna (Dave) Nelson of Minnesota several cousins in Missouri and many very special friends and beloved pets, Bubba and Molly. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
