Melvin Cary Vavricek, 74, of Center Point, died Friday, September 14, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center, from complications from a motorcycle accident in July. Celebration of Life Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Burial will be in Czech National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 18, 2018 at Brosh Chapel.
Melvin was born February 29, 1944 in Cedar Rapids, the son of Frank and Eleanor (Lorence) Vavricek. He graduated from Troy Mills High School, class of 1962. He worked for many years at Nash Finch and over the road driver. Melvin was united in marriage to Tammy Bachus on August 2, 1986 in Bennett. Melvin and Tammy farmed for many years together in the Center Point area. He enjoyed camping, fishing, gardening, farming and most of all spending time with his family.
Melvin is survived by his wife of over 32 years, Tammy; his children Rod (Brandy) Vavricek of Monticello, Cary Vavricek of Cedar Rapids, Nick Vavricek of Leland, North Carolina, Alicia (Klint) Davis of Atkins and Tyler Vavricek of Center Point; eleven grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; his sister Mardene (Larry) Hinton of Kankakee, Illinois; as well as his dogs Sissy and Bandit.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter Leah Christensen.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to either Troy Mills Fire & Rescue or Center Point Ambulance in his name.
