Megan Jennifer Klaus, 28, of Mount Vernon, died peacefully Monday, October 1, 2018, wrapped in the love of her family and friends. A vigil with a sharing of memories by her uncle will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, October 4, 2018 followed by a visitation from 3:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.  A catholic funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday October 5, 2018 at the church and the burial will follow immediately at Mount Vernon Cemetery.

Megan was "born an entertainer" to Dan and Teresa Cox on January 15, 1990. She grew up in Mount Vernon, where she performed in many high school musicals, and she worked at the C-Store where she was adored by the local coffee club. Her friends will remember her many dance parties.

She attended Simpson College where she performed in many operas and graduated with a degree in Music Education. Megan and her fiancé Ben moved to Baton Rouge Louisiana where Ben earned his Master's degree at LSU. While there, Megan taught music at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic school.

Throughout college, Megan and Ben's relationship grew from high-school sweethearts to soulmates. She married Ben on June 29, 2013 at St. Peter and Paul Chapel near Solon and started a family in Mount Vernon. Leroy was born in December 2014 and Hector in April 2017. Her boys were her pride and joy.

She taught music at Sacred Heart Elementary School in Monticello and Olin Elementary School in Olin. She was very proud of her work and also nurtured many Mount Vernon students with piano lessons in her home.

Megan was an accomplished Cantor, singing and playing the piano for many weddings, church services, funerals, and her greatest fans, her grandparents and family. Megan loved to entertain, cook, and bake, and brought many people together through her "open door, open house" policy. She always wrote the most genuine, detailed, beautiful hand-written Thank You notes.

Megan's talents, love for life, and her recent strength through adversity have inspired her brothers, family, and friends to be more like her.

Megan is survived by her husband Ben, sons Leroy and Hector of Mount Vernon, parents Dan and Teresa Cox of Mount Vernon, brothers Ryan Cox and fiancé Kathleen Kennedy of Rochester, MN, and Bryce Cox of Cedar Falls, her grandmother Jane Cox of Mount Vernon, her father-in law John Klaus of Mount Vernon, sister-in law Liz Klaus and husband Ben Claes of Iowa City, and her niece Lucy Klaus.

She was proceeded in death by her grandparents Victor and Janice Kraus, grandfather Don Cox, grandmother Ilse Ryan and mother-in-law Heidi Ryan.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, memorials are preferred.

The family would like to thank Dr. Rasa Buntinas and the staff at PCI, St. Lukes Hospice, St. Lukes Hospital 5th Floor, Mayo Clinic Oncology Unit, and the endless caring and loving support from family and friends throughout her journey.
