Maxine Ann Cerveny, 86 of Fairfax, died Friday, August 17, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 21st, at Blessed John XXIII Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Patrick's Cemetery near Fairfax. Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling Street SW, where there will be a 7 p.m. parish vigil. Maxine was born August 3, 1926 in Fairfax the daughter of Milo and Mildred (Cole) Cerveny. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids. Maxine worked as a secretary for the Principal at McKinley and Jefferson High Schools for many years. She retired from The Defense Contract Administration. Maxine enjoyed traveling to the Rocky Mountain States, going bowling, watching Iowa basketball and football, attending events at Hanscher Auditorium in Iowa City, as well as spending time with her family, especially her niece, nephew and great nieces and nephews. She was a member of the CRIABWA Chapter of American Business Women, Fairfax American Legion Women's Auxilary, St. Patrick Altar and Rosary Society. Maxine is survived by her brothers Milo (Jean) Cerveny of Cedar Rapids, Vernon Cerveny of Fairfax and Jim (Jan) Cerveny of Swisher; niece Ann (Dan) Parsons of Wilton, nephew Darren (Kristy) Cerveny of Moscow; great-nieces Karen Parsons, Amira and Sophia Cerveny; great-nephews Corey Parsons and Ryan Cerveny. She was preceded in dearth by her parents. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Fairfax Public Library.
