Max Robert Miltner, 86 of Solon, died Friday, December 31, 2010 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City . Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, where full military rites will be conducted by the Solon American Legion Stinocher Post 460. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Brosh Chapel in Solon, where there will be a 7 p.m. vigil service.

Max was born May 11, 1924 in Iowa City , the son of Francis and Margaret (Wood) Miltner. Max served in United States Navy Armed Guard in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He married Virginia Scott on February 17, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Solon. Max owned F.W. Miltner Livestock for a number of years. He was also a realtor for Miller & Co. in Cedar Rapids selling Ag Real estate for 20 years. Max served on the Solon Fire Department and Solon City Council. He was a lifelong member of Solon American Legion Post 460 and was involved in organizing the early Solon Beef Day's Parade. He enjoyed fishing with his grandsons and buying ice cream for his granddaughters. His family has fond memories of the things Max did and said. His sayings were priceless.

Max is survived by his wife Virginia; children Scott (Judy) Miltner of Lancaster, California, Michael (Rita) Miltner of Corning, Teri (Lynn) Haines of Muscado, Wisconsin, Curt (Sue) Miltner of Fairfax and Mark (Barb) Miltner of Cedar Rapids; fourteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren; a brother Jack Miltner of Ankeny; his sisters Geraldine (Jack) Lynch of Iowa City, Dolores (Rusty) Krall of Estes Park, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister in law Bernice Miltner
