Mary Bridget Stransky, 80, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Friday, July 31, 2026, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy. Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Czech National Cemetery. Brosh Chapel and The Avacentre are assisting the family at this time.

Mary was born on April 1, 1946, in Londonderry, Ireland, the daughter of James and Mary “Molly” (Hutton) Harkin. In 1969, Mary met the love of her life, Gary Stransky, while he was in the Navy, stationed in Londonderry. They were married on June 18, 1969, in Londonderry Ireland, and from there they moved to Iowa to start their lives together. Mary worked at Jefferson High School in Lunch Services for over 16 years before retiring. She enjoyed working in her yard, tending to the flowers, her dogs and grand dogs, and most of all enjoyed being a wife, mother and grandmother.

Mary is survived by her son Michael Stransky; daughter Sharon (Chad); grandchildren Molly (Robert), and Tyler (Bree); her sisters Rose Denney, and Phyllis Zaycek; her brother Jimmy Harkin; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 42 years, Gary Stransky; son-in-Law T.J. Evans; and her brothers John, Patty, Tommy, Mickey and Willie Harkin and her sister Frances O’Riley.
