Mary Elizabeth King, 80 of Cedar Rapids , died Monday, April 26, 2010. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 28 at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids , located at 2121 Bowling Street SW. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Brosh Chapel. Burial will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, at Oakland Cemetery in Solon. Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Mary was born August 20, 1929 in Capital Heights , Maryland , the daughter of John Stakes and Helen Genevieve Gibson Thomas. She married George William King Sr. on April 26, 1947 in Washington , DC . She worked for many years at Grant Wood Area Education Agency, where she made many lasting friendships. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, collecting dolls and spending time with her family.

Mary is survived by her children, David (Dawn) King of Shakopee, Minnesota; Nancy (Alan) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids; Richard (Aimee) King of Atkins; Joanne (Scott) Carbaugh of Cedar Rapids; and Robert (Elizabeth) King of Galesburg, Illinois; twelve grandchildren, Bryan, Chris, Todd, Troy, and Tara King, Jill (Mark) Cartano, Jane (Noel) Gardner, Thomas, Emily, and Jaclyn King, and Jordan and Nathan Carbaugh; three step-grandchildren, Emily, Ryan, and Caitlin; and sisters, Jean (Harlan) Brumwell of Cedar Rapids, and Betty (Ray) Buchmayer of Solon; and one great-grandson Ryan Gardner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George William King Sr. on June 14, 1996; a son and daughter-in-law, George William "Bill" and Judith Mae King Jr.; and a brother, John Thomas.
