Mary Amelia Horak , 91 of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, October 18 at her daughters home in Mercer, Missouri.  Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 23, 2006 at St. Ludmilas Cathlolic Church with Fr. Tom McDermott officiating.  Burial will follow in Czech National Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids were there will be a 4 p.m. vigil.
Mary was born on June 5, 1915 in Mar-Lin, Pennsylvania the daughter of Matthew and Veronica Wynosky Margiawicz.   She worked as a seamstress in Philadelphia in the shirt factories before the war.  She married the sailor "that swept her off her feet" on February 16, 1942.  They lived in Norfolk, Virginia, Mankato, Minnesota, Ely and Cedar Rapids, Iowa where Marvin finished his Naval career.  She worked at Clemons Canvas Shop and Tom Shaws Canvas and Upholstery from which she retired.  She was a member of St. Ludmila's Catholic Church and St. Mary's Circle.  She was also a member of the Cedar Rapids Womens Fleet Reserve.  Mary loved sewing, canning, and her family and friends.  In later years when she moved to Missouri to live with her daughter and son in law Marsha and Norman, she loved watching geese and ducks on the lake.  Her favorite ice cream was strawberry and she loved to watch her favorite football team the Denver Broncos, and was also very fond of the two family dogs Sassy and Ruby.
Mary is survived by a daughter Marsha (Norman) Broussard of Mercer, Missouri and Marcella K. Horak of Cedar Rapids; a sister Florence Navalonic of Jacksonville, North Carolina; grandson Zachariah Hale of Denver, Colorado; granddaughter Jennifer Hale and two great grandchildren Capria Davis and Brayden Wright all of Cedar Rapids.
Preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin who died January 26, 1989, her two brothers and six sisters.
